I would call this a celebration of friendship,'tho I don't
know if t would serve your purpose. I have a tradition of
having a student read this when our class has a "feast"
together at the end of each term. (We have a discussion first
about the tradition of saying grace, and anyone for whom this
is not appropriate is invited to silently say and feel
whatever is appropriate for themselves). This is from Because
of Winn-Dixie p.153 of the Scholastic edition. It is a
celebration of the lives that have come together and made
connections despite the obstacles that each one faces. The
preacher says ."..Dear God, thank you for warm summer nights
and candlelight and good food. But thank you most of all for
friends. We appreciate the complicated and wonderful gifts
you give us in each other. And we appreciate the task you put
down before us, of loving each other as best we can, even as
you love us." [It continues "We pray in Christ's name. Amen"
you would have to use your judgement about whether or not
to include that.] Honestly, I have a student read it because
it chokes me up every time. Happy Thanksgiving!
