Re: Ellis. Wow "A' Thoughts on Things
    Posted by: mm on 9/15/11

I think you are extrapolating far too from this. I'm quite a veteran myself
and I don't think these things are as important as made out here. I'm sure
there are many on staff that would gladly forgo 'gifting' or 'donations' in
favour of a simple, heartfelt card. One of my favourite things done on staff
was a fund/draw (strictly optional). Staff dropped a toonie in a box once a
week with their name. At our staff meeting the names were drawn. The winner
got to name the charity that his/her money could be donated to--in his/her
name from the school. It was voluntary. It opened up lots of new doors in the
community and, surprisingly for many people, lots of staff contributed. And
of all the milestones I had (school moves, promotions, ) so far the one thing
I would love is a mug with the school name on. In fact, I love all school-
related merchandise. I wear my sweats proudly. One of those mugs filled with
goodies is a darn thoughtful gift!
